Custom Prepared Herbal Formulas

The best medicine is individualized medicine.

Dr Erikson creates custom designed herbal formulations for all his patients, each containing anywhere from 4 to 20 ingredients which are chosen to match the unique presentation of the patient. 

The herbal ingredients are then ground into a fine powder and packaged inside a large tea bag that the patient cooks at home for a short period of time with water. When the herbal medicines are ground into a powder, the surface area is increased and thus allows for quicker cooking time and a more thorough extraction of medicinal compounds. The process is quite simple and effective.

As much as possible, Dr Erikson sources the highest quality organic and lab tested (free of pesticides and contaminates) herbal ingredients and stocks highly specialized herbs for dermatology and inflammatory conditions.

Why Raw Herbs?

Herbal medicines can be found in many different formats, from prepared pills, to alcohol extracts (tinctures), to dehydrated substrates (called granular medicine). However, Chinese Medicine doctors recognize that the most effective form of herbal treatment is the simple dried herbs cooked in water. Herbal ingredients have a synergistic effect, containing within them medicinal compounds that combine to create new medicinal compounds when cooked together.

Think of soup. If you were to simply add ingredients without cooking them together, the taste wouldn’t be very good. But when you cook the ingredients together, new flavours are created, that make the soup a delicious food. The same is for herbal medicines: when they are cooked together they have a more potent medicinal effect. In fact, Chinese medicine calls the liquid that is created from cooking different herbal ingredients together ‘Tang’, or soup.
